Rivets

When your project calls for the light weight and high strength of a rivet, Cal Fasteners carries a wide range of products that deliver. A rivet is a mechanical fastener made up of a smooth cylindrical shaft with heads on either end. The heads are somewhat larger than the diameter of the hole into which the rivet is inserted. Generally, one head is factory formed; the other is formed by clinching metal after the rivet has been inserted.

There are a number of different types of rivets, including blind rivets. Blind rivets are tubular and are supplied with a mandrel through the center. The rivet assembly is inserted into a hole drilled through the parts to be joined and a specially designed tool used to draw the mandrel into the rivet. This expands the blind end of the rivet and the mandrel snaps. In addition to blind rivets, CFI carries AN-MS rivets, Advel rivets, cherry rivets, inserts, Riv-Nuts, semi-tubular, solid rivets, and many special designs. Cal Fasteners carries rivets in a number of different materials, as well as metric sizes of rivets.

Rivets were the standard fastener before welding techniques and bolted joints were developed. Often metal-framed buildings and structures such as bridges were held together by riveting, as were automobile chassis. Riveting is still widely used in areas such as aircraft construction, or any situation where light weight and high strength are critical. At Cal Fasteners, we understand the importance of these applications, and we can offer advice on choosing the correct rivet for your next project.
